Jesus rises from the dead on the third day, glorious and immortal.
Rise with Devotion
“Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.
Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’”
— Mark 16:1–3
Let us contemplate in this mystery how these women went to the tomb in grief and sorrow, simply doing the next act of love they knew to do. They did not come with shouts of joy, but with quiet fidelity to a Lord they believed had died for them.
We are not called to serve only when our hearts are full of joy and everything feels easy,
but to imitate these women at the tomb:
to rise early, even in sorrow,
to move with devotion for our crucified Lord,
and to trust that Jesus Himself will be the one to roll the heavy stone away—from our lives, from our wills, from what we cannot move.
